Root Canal Treatment Abroad: Costs, Success Rates and When a Crown Is Required

Saving a tooth abroad

Root-canal treatment removes infected or inflamed tissue from inside a tooth, cleans and seals the canals, and aims to retain the natural tooth. Travelling can reduce private costs, but diagnosis, technical complexity and the final restoration matter more than a low headline price.

Prices last checked: August 2026. Broad private-market planning estimates only; individual quotes depend on diagnosis, materials and clinical complexity.

When may root-canal treatment be recommended?

Reasons can include deep decay, cracks, trauma or infection affecting the pulp. Symptoms alone cannot confirm the diagnosis; examination and appropriate imaging are required. Complex molar anatomy, previous treatment and difficult-to-find canals may require an endodontist or specialist equipment.

Why is a crown sometimes needed?

Back teeth can be weakened by decay and the access required for treatment. A crown or other cuspal-coverage restoration may be recommended to reduce fracture risk, but the appropriate restoration depends on how much sound tooth remains and the bite. Confirm whether the quoted price includes only the root canal or also the permanent restoration.

Travel timing and follow-up

Treatment may take one or more appointments. Do not leave before the dentist has assessed symptoms, the temporary or final seal and the bite. Obtain diagnostic images, treatment notes and the final X-ray for a dentist at home.

Dental Treatment Recovery Calculator

Select every procedure planned for the same trip. The calculator uses the most conservative selected estimate, because combining treatments can extend recovery.

Which procedures are you considering?
Important: This is a general planning aid, not personalised medical clearance. Your dentist or surgeon must set your travel timetable after examining you. Complications, infection, sedation, multiple procedures and existing health conditions can require a longer stay. Seek urgent professional help for heavy bleeding, breathing or swallowing difficulty, rapidly increasing swelling, fever or severe uncontrolled pain.
