REMOTE CONSULTATIONS
An online consultation can gather history, discuss goals and identify records, but photographs and video cannot replace examination, X-rays, gum measurements or bite assessment.
What can be discussed remotely?
- symptoms, medical history and expectations;
- existing X-rays and scans;
- possible treatment categories and alternatives;
- estimated visits, recovery and price range;
- questions for the in-person examination.
What cannot be confirmed reliably?
- hidden decay and cracks;
- gum pocket depths and mobility;
- bone quality without suitable imaging;
- exact tooth preparation;
- final implant or veneer suitability.
Photograph-only plans
A fixed plan for multiple extractions, crowns or implants from selfies alone should be treated as provisional. Ask what findings could change it.
Records to send
Use recent diagnostic records where clinically appropriate. Remove unrelated personal information and use the clinic’s secure transfer process.
Questions during the call
- Who is providing this advice?
- Is the clinician registered where treatment occurs?
- Which parts remain provisional?
- What is refundable if the plan changes?
- Will I receive a written summary?
