Veneers and crowns are not the same
A veneer covers mainly the front surface of a tooth. A crown covers the tooth more completely and generally requires greater preparation. Crowns can be appropriate when teeth are structurally damaged, but using them purely to change the appearance of otherwise healthy teeth may remove more tissue than a conservative option.
Why excessive tooth shaving matters
Removing tooth tissue is irreversible. Greater preparation can increase sensitivity and may affect the future need for root-canal treatment or replacement restorations. Patients should be shown which teeth need treatment, why, and what alternatives exist—including orthodontics, whitening, bonding or no treatment.
