Clear aligners can move teeth discreetly, but they require diagnosis, repeated monitoring and retention—not merely a box of trays collected during a holiday.
How clear-aligner treatment works
Digital scans and records are used to plan staged tooth movement. Patients change trays on a prescribed schedule and attend reviews so tracking, gum health and the bite can be checked. Attachments, enamel reduction or elastics may be required.
Invisalign is a brand
Clinics sometimes use “Invisalign” to describe any clear aligner. Ask for the actual system, treating clinician and laboratory. Different products offer different levels of planning support and refinement.
Typical overseas cost
Published prices may range from about £1,000 to £3,500 for limited-to-comprehensive treatment. The cheapest price may exclude refinements, attachments, retainers or replacement trays.

Why remote follow-up matters
Aligners can stop fitting, attachments can detach and gums may become inflamed. Before travelling, arrange who reviews progress, whether remote checks are clinically suitable and which local dentist can help with urgent problems.
What discomfort is expected?
Pressure and tenderness commonly follow a new tray. Sharp edges may irritate the cheeks. Severe pain, gum swelling, a loose tooth or trays that no longer seat properly require professional review.

Questions before paying
- Who diagnoses and supervises the case?
- Are X-rays, attachments, refinements and retainers included?
- How many in-person visits are required?
- What happens if teeth do not track?
- Who provides long-term retention checks?
Compare total cost, not tray count
Include repeat travel, time off work, replacement retainers and any local monitoring. A cheaper package is poor value if follow-up is inaccessible.
