What Is Composite Bonding and How Is It Different From Veneers?

Understand composite bonding, how the resin is applied, what it can change and how it compares with porcelain and composite veneers.

At a glance: Understand the treatment, alternatives, practical risks and aftercare before committing to an overseas clinic.

Composite bonding uses tooth-coloured resin to repair or reshape a tooth. It may be used for small chips, worn edges, uneven shapes or modest gaps. The material is applied directly to the tooth, shaped, hardened with a curing light and polished.

Is bonding the same as a composite veneer?

The terms overlap. Bonding may describe a small repair to part of a tooth, while a direct composite veneer generally covers more of the front surface. Clinics sometimes use the words interchangeably, so ask exactly how much material will be added and whether any enamel will be removed.

How does it compare with porcelain veneers?

Composite is usually completed directly in the mouth and may require little or no drilling. Porcelain veneers are made outside the mouth and bonded later. Porcelain is generally more stain resistant, while composite can often be repaired more easily. Neither option is maintenance-free.

Does composite bonding hurt?

Bonding that only adds material may require no anaesthetic. Anaesthetic may be offered if decay must be removed, the tooth needs reshaping or sensitive areas are involved. The bite should be checked carefully after treatment.

How long does it last?

There is no reliable lifetime promise. Chipping, staining and wear depend on the bite, tooth position, grinding, diet, oral hygiene and how much resin was added. Maintenance and polishing may be needed.

Before booking abroad

Ask whether the plan is additive bonding, a composite veneer, porcelain veneer or crown. Request close-up photographs of comparable cases, a written maintenance plan and a clear explanation of what happens if the material chips after you travel home.

Prices last checked: August 2026. Published Turkey examples advertise composite bonding from around £100 per tooth, while the final price depends on the amount of resin, number of teeth and whether preparation or repairs are required.
